Pine Creek Montana, 30th July - 1st August 2023

Charlie selected Pine Creek Campground, high up in the Valley beside the upper Yellowstone River as the venue for his birthday. The altitude helped with the day time heat and it wasn't too far from Livingston and Bozeman so friends and family could join him to celebrate.

We enjoyed a lazy day on his big day keeping cool in shade beside the river before the party kicked off in the evening.

The sun sets on Charlie's birthday

The next morning Heidi and Christine set off to hike the trail up to the lakes at the summit of the nearby mountain.

To say Heidi is fit is a great understatement. After a couple of hours keeping to her gruelling hiking pace then gradually trailing behind at the unaccustomed altitude, Christine decided to find a cool spot, rest her back on a wall of cold rock and enjoy her lunch in the company of a friendly ground squirrel, while Heidi continued to the summit. It was to be hoped that no bears were out and about in the heat of the day!

Heidi returned safe and sound with pretty pictures of the alpine lakes at the top of the mountain.

Getting higher and hotter.

Lunch break spot for Christine.

Everything is expanding!

What was that I spied??

I think I'll have a rest too.

Ready to cool the feet in the river.

Finally cooling those feet.

Meanwhile the boys had gone for a back roads Jeep adventure - still a tiring option on the bumpy roads.
